⚠ THE TRAP TO AVOID

Why not a Viator or GetYourGuide bus wine tour.

When you type “Médoc wine tour” or “Pauillac chateaux tour” from London or New York, these names appear first on Google. They are marketplaces, not operators. Here is what they do not tell you.

25–40 %

Hidden commission

You pay the platform margin. On €109/person, the local tour operator gets €65-80. The difference goes to Viator. Zero added value for you.

30

Bus of 30 strangers

A 20- to 30-seat bus, two pre-arranged châteaux (the only ones that can host a bus), 45 minutes maximum per visit, a guide speaking through a microphone to 30 people at once.

0

Zero flexibility

You do not choose the châteaux. No photo stop at the Beychevelle carrelets, no coffee on the Pauillac harbor, no extension to Saint-Estèphe. Someone is late at 2pm? Everyone waits.

The alternative is simple: book directly. You save the commission, you know in advance who is coming, you talk with the driver via WhatsApp before the day. Cheaper and better — questions? See the FAQ or contact us.

Pauillac and Margaux in one day

Adrien took us to Pauillac in the morning and Margaux in the afternoon. Three châteaux chosen with him via WhatsApp before the trip, welcomed by the owners, tastings without pressure. No bus, no unknown group. A day exactly as we imagined.

Margaux then lunch on the Pauillac harbor

Our driver knew the best Margaux and Saint-Julien estates by heart. Lunch booked for us on the Pauillac harbor, return with a full case in the trunk, no need to drive. Pure luxury.

Photo at the Beychevelle carrelets

Booked for the Médoc Open Doors weekend in April. Adrien found three châteaux that took walk-ins, plus a photo stop at the Beychevelle carrelets. Our daughter loved the estuary. Memory etched.

BEYOND THE MÉDOC

Combine the Médoc with other destinations.

If you have two days in the region: Médoc + Saint-Émilion on the opposite bank. Half a day extra: Arcachon or Pessac-Léognan. Here are our other popular destinations from Bordeaux.

Saint-Émilion

approx. €120 · 45-55 min

UNESCO vineyards, historic châteaux, medieval village. Perfect to combine with a Médoc day.

Pessac-Léognan

Classified Graves, châteaux 20 min from Bordeaux: Haut-Brion, Pape Clément, Smith Haut Lafitte.

Sarlat-la-Canéda

approx. €420 · 2h30-2h40

Black Périgord, Dordogne châteaux, gastronomy. Direct trip, no transfers.

Biarritz / Basque Coast

Frequently asked questions.

Everything travelers ask before booking a Médoc day.

How much is a transfer from Bordeaux Airport (BOD) to the city centre?

For a one-way transfer to Margaux: from €70 in eco, €77 in Mercedes E-Class, €87 in van and €102 in Mercedes V-Class. For Pauillac: €110 eco / €121 Mercedes / €133 van / €155 V-Class. For Saint-Estèphe: €125 eco / €139 Mercedes / €152 van / €177 V-Class. For a full vineyard day with a dedicated driver (hire-by-the-hour, 4h minimum): from €220 (4h eco), €330 (6h eco), €440 (8h eco). All fixed prices guaranteed at booking.

Is it cheaper than a taxi?

Yes, this is precisely the point of hire-by-the-hour. Waiting time is included in the hourly fixed price. Your driver stays on site, near the château, available the moment you are ready to head to the next château. If a tasting runs 30 minutes long because the owner is unstoppable, no problem.

Do you speak English?

Yes, our drivers speak fluent English — essential for the Médoc, which draws international wine lovers in large numbers (British, American, Irish, Australian, Asian). Communication via WhatsApp before the trip and smooth conversation about the Margaux, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe châteaux during the day.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Yes. For groups of 4 to 7, we use a van (from €70/h, i.e. €280 for 4h) or a Mercedes V-Class van (from €80/h, i.e. €320 for 4h). Above 7 people, multiple vehicles — contact us for a multi-vehicle quote.

Can I pay in cash, or do I need a card?

From May to October, the Médoc is at its best. September is legendary, with the harvest and the Médoc Marathon — book very early. The Open Doors weekend in April brings around a hundred châteaux open free of charge. Off-season, some estates remain accessible by reservation.

What if I need a child seat or extra luggage space?

Possible but ambitious in one day: the two vineyards are on opposite sides of Bordeaux, about 120 km between Pauillac and Saint-Émilion. In practice, dedicate one day to each bank. See our Bordeaux ↔ Saint-Émilion VTC page to plan the second day.
